Steven F. Mayer has resigned as executive chairman of the board of Spanish pharmaceutical company Grifols, the company said on Tuesday, citing health and other personal reasons.

A reliance on vaccines in short supply and questions over their best use are hampering efforts to curb the global spread of monkeypox which has hit dozens of countries for the first time, health officials say.

Spain has asked the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for permission to give more people a smaller dose of monkeypox vaccine, an approach known as “dose sparing” to distribute limited supplies as far as possible, the health ministry said.
