The drug, GSBR-1290, belongs to the same class of treatments as Novo Nordisk’s blockbuster weight-loss drug Wegovy and Eli Lilly’s (LLY.N) diabetes drug Mounjaro.

The company said the drug showed up to 19% weight loss after 46 weeks in a mid-stage trial.

Novo plans to seek U.S. and European regulatory approval of the high-dose pill later this year, but timing of a market launch is “to be determined,” according to Mico Guevarra, medical director at Novo Nordisk.
