Athira Pharma’s experimental Alzheimer’s therapy, fosgonimeton, continues to show signs of being able to improve cognition and function in patients.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc said it would buy Binding Site Group from European private equity firm Nordic Capital in an all-cash transaction valued at 2.25 billion pounds ($2.6 billion), boosting its specialty diagnostics business.

The company said its experimental drug capivasertib was able to help patients with an advanced form of breast cancer live longer, when combined with the drugmaker’s older cancer treatment Faslodex regardless of biomarker status.

The company’s original plan was to not apply to regulators until 2023, but now, it plans to submit the drug to the FDA in the next few months, with plans to launch the drug in mid-2023.

A team involving researchers from Alcediag, Montpellier University Hospital, Les Toises Psychiatry Centre in Lausanne and Professor David J. Kupfer from the University of Pittsburgh identified and validated a combination of blood biomarkers specific to bipolar disorder. These results, recently published in the leading scientific journal Nature, have led to the development of the first diagnostic blood test for this disorder that affects more than 60 million people worldwide.
