Pandemic fatigue gave way to marketing needs in 2021, according to the leadership team of LevLane. “At LevLane, we were able to address the ongoing needs of current clients while significantly expanding our business by addressing the very unique needs of Gateway Health, part of Highmark Health. Connecting with consumers in our home state of Pennsylvania that desperately needed healthcare coverage allowed us to live our mantra of ‘Who Loves Ya?’ more than ever.”

Management says the winning of the Gateway Health account was also the agency’s first significant account win in the virtual environment. “We met, pitched, onboarded, and grew the account working strictly through Teams. We are a communications company that had to relearn how to communicate in the pandemic world! A fun challenge that we met head-on and now have a case study to implement this model, and Gateway is now our top success story for that model.”

“Speaking of models, our ‘brand engagement and understanding model’ were very important in 2021,” LevLane executives say. “Brands that connected with their customers faired the best in these difficult times. That’s why we’ve been ahead of the curve even before it was fashionable; we’ve been focused on more than building brand understanding for the past 37 years. From day one, LevLane has been all about building brand LOVE – so all stakeholders understand the uniqueness of your brand and love it – a love that lasts through transformational times like we experienced in 2021. And that’s why we continue to ask every new life sciences client the burning question: ‘Who Loves Ya?’”

According to company managers, LevLane is driving innovation in life sciences through its approach to the healthcare consumer journey. “We don’t think about them as patients; we think about them as people with individual perspectives and very unique needs,” they say. “Addressing consumer needs has been a hallmark of success with our two newest and largest clients, Gateway Health and United Concordia Dental.”

The agency’s life sciences model includes “a healthy mix” of consumer, healthcare, payer, pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device experience, LevLane executives say. “This combination results in our innovative human-to-human experiences for all stakeholders – experiences relevant across emerging channels.”

Management says this model is uniquely LevLane. “It combines intellect, talent, and vision for our clients. Working together, we can – and do – create new opportunities to benefit health, life, and the bottom line even in the virtual world!”

Recent Accomplishments

LevLane continued to grow during 2021, and managers note that as well as adding Gateway Health to the portfolio, the agency grew other core accounts such as United Concordia, Agile Therapeutics, and BioReference Laboratories Inc.

In 2021, LevLane continued to support Agile Therapeutics and Twirla (levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol) Transdermal System, a branded hormonal contraceptive patch. “Our role has evolved as we lead Agile Therapeutics to leading corporate communications and ongoing PR efforts for the Twirla brand,” management says.

The primary initiative that LevLane will be leading for Agile is a “corporate envoy” program with soccer star Carli Lloyd. “Carli is aligned with Agile’s corporate culture and understands the importance of empowering women, especially young women, to reach beyond their limits, believe in themselves, and never compromise especially with their healthcare,” says Timmy Garde, chief innovation leader. “Based on her unique background and powerful public persona, Agile was thrilled that she agreed to work with them.” The envoy program is designed to increase awareness of Agile and their role in women’s health through social media and media placements.

LevLane developed the shared mantra for Lloyd and Agile (“Don’t let anyone tell you what’s possible”) driving women’s health consumers to know all of their options, not just those that are presented to them. Garde adds, “Agile believes this shared attitude aligns with their corporate culture and will build the foundation for a partnership that is beneficial to women’s health and wellness. In turn, this partnership will improve the lives of women across America and lead to female empowerment.”

For both Lloyd and Agile, it allows them to address topics that impact women’s lives and the possibilities/options in front of them.

For United Concordia Dental, the second full “COVID year” was extremely successful for its B2B and B2C campaigns in 2021. “United Concordia remains committed to elevating the importance of oral health to overall health, and our second full year of our campaigns allowed us to drive home that connection further with all of our core audiences,” says Kevin Dunn, senior VP, strategy and client engagement.

LevLane continues to service BioReference Laboratories, an OPKO Health Inc. company, with marketing support for corporate initiatives, GenPath, The 4Kscore Test, and all professional sports leagues/teams regarding COVID-19 diagnostic test programs.

LevLane has been instrumental with branding, messaging website development, content development, paid search, SEO, public relations, and social media. “BioReference is a national leader in helping to remedy the COVID-19 pandemic by providing healthcare professional and diagnostic test services, calling on LevLane as its partner to assist in all areas of marketing and communications,” Garde says.

And the leadership team says LevLane continues to be on the forefront of healthcare innovation. On May 18, 2021, LevLane orchestrated its fourth Leaders In Life Sciences Breakfast Roundtable with a virtual two-hour discussion, which included nine panelists and a moderator, all distinguished national industry leaders.

These individuals, representing key executives from the life sciences industry, including diagnostic, payer, health and institutional system, policy, venture fund, patient perspectives, and consulting, participated in an interactive session with the theme focused on the future of digital healthcare.

Structure and Services

LevLane matches the talent to meet the marketing and communications challenges that brands face in today’s complicated, diverse, and ever-shifting marketplace, management says. “We are connected with a uniquely talented network, from market evaluation, access, and commercialization to meet any challenge.”

“It’s not easy, but we make it seamless for our clients as we solve their problems, meet their challenges, and provide innovative solutions to solve complex issues,” Garde says.

Future Plans

LevLane’s successes in 2021 are already leading to future engagements in a broad spectrum of health and wellness, according to the leadership team. “Innovation and the explosion of digital health provide competitive opportunities for our clients as consumers want to take more control of their health,” Garde says. “Staying ahead of the curve in these areas positions LevLane as a true partner to our clients and an extension to their teams.”

Philanthropy/Citizenship

In 2021, Bruce Lev, co-founder and CEO, became a member of the local chapter of Ronald McDonald House Charities, an independent American nonprofit organization whose mission is to create, find, and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children. “I have come full circle from working on the creative for the first Ronald McDonald House at the start of my career to joining the board now, as we continue to support families and children with dire healthcare needs by providing a place for families to stay during trying times,” Lev says.

LevLane continues to partner with the Magical Mila Foundation, raising over $350,000 since its inception in 2019. Funds have allowed Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (a Foundation partner) to explore trial technologies and alerts for Neurofibromatosis Type 1. The Foundation has been raising awareness about NF1 and high blood pressure in high-risk infants and toddlers. According to Garde, who sits on the board of the foundation, “LevLane continues to stand behind this wonderful initiative, expand the awareness of NF1, and raise funds to help save the lives of children in the future, but also honor the life of a beautiful little girl.”
